K I N G S T O N UNLIKE MANY early settlements along the Hudson, Kingston wasn't built right on the river, but instead on the hill just a short distance inland. Today's city of Kingston is actually three centers joined together - in addition to the old city of Kingston (called "uptown" or the "stockade district"), there is Rondout, built on the creek of the same name which meets the Hudson here, and a third district, known as "midtown," that developed in the space between the first two. There I found a number of interesting ruins - an abandoned (well, almost abandoned) school, a quirky old Victorian house, a burnt-out factory building . . . and City Hall. © T.E. Rinaldi, 2006
