Two views of the Saint Germaine Home at Mount Saint Florence, a convent that stood off Maple Avenue just southeast of downtown Peekskill, as it appeared in September 2001. The convent closed in 1978, and later was listed on the State Register of Historic Places. Developers proposed to demolish all historic buildings on the site to build a condominium called "Chaple Hill." New houses were built over the convent's grounds in the 1980s and '90s, but the city government insisted on a compromise solution for the convent buildings themselves. In the meantime the buildings stood abandoned. In 2001-02 Ginsburg Development demolished part of the historic complex, but adapted this building and a neighboring chaple to house loft-style apartments and a recreation center. © T.E.
