Former freight depot of the West Shore Railroad, Saugerties, Ulster County. Elaborate as it is eccentric, this sign is an extremely rare relic of the old New York, West Shore and Buffalo Railway Co., predecessor to the West Shore Railroad, which existed only from 1880 to 1885 before the New York Central bought it out. Note the shadow formed on the facade under the eaves. This building now serves the local gas company. It has a twin further down the line at Milton, which is now unused and whose future is in doubt.
