From 1895 to 1949, Poughkeepsie made headlines around the world once a year when it hosted the regatta of the Intercollegiate Rowing Associaton. Painted college letters ("P" and "C" here probably represent Princeton and California) still look out across the river from Highland, among several regatta related relics which can still be found here more than fifty years later.
