Bannerman Castle at Pollepel Island
West side of the Tower. June 12, 1998
Notice the turret in the upper left (northwest corner of the Tower). It
is six feet wide. Not visible in this photo, the turret on the southwest
corner is 8 feet wide, another Bannerman architectural trick. Francis
Bannerman's sketches and plans were recently uncovered at the Hagli
Institute in Delaware. You couldn't contstruct a building today
using Bannerman's methods; it wouldn't be legal, and no builder
would work with you. The builders of Bannerman Castle had mere scraps
of paper to work with.
