Bannerman Castle at Pollepel Island
Rob Yasinsac at the Residence, south front. June 13, 1998
I love the windows in the upper right and left. They look like ghoulish
faces screaming in fright. Little things like that make Bannerman's so
unique, and show why architecture of yesterday is so much better and more
interesting than the bland shoeboxes that are being built today.
Modern architecture is just not aesthetically pleasing. Rarely do you see
someone throw in the extra little things that really create the identity
of a building. From afar, Bannerman's could be any old building, a copy of
an old European castle maybe, perhaps only romantic because it is a ruin.
But when you get on the island and see the buildings up-close, you find
what makes Bannerman's what it is.
