The mortared stone base of the smokestack seen in John Ferguson Weir's painting
"The
Gun Foundry." The cupola furnaces and smokestacks were dismantled by
the Cornell ironworks. The rail line evident in the two photographs above was
likely used by the Cornell workers to move heavy molds and castings within the
shops. More info here,
