New York Ruins
A sample of sites that I visited during my August 2010 road trip.
Some ruins, some not-so-ruins, and some not ruins at all.

Catskill - self-portrait.
What follows is a sample of photographs taken during a road trip through New York during one week in August 2010. I had several ruins and appointments on my itinerary, and along the way I found some surprises. I met up with some long-time correspondents, and met some interesting folks on the road. I've also included some-non-ruins on these pages, being that I am interested in old buildings or interesting architecture, abandoned or not.

Catskill - Capt. James Bogardus House.
As seen in Hudson Valley Ruins - Forgotten Landmarks of an American Landscape (2006), and still abandoned. I started my trip by getting off the New York State Thruway in Catskill and taking local roads north and west. I checked in on some familiar sites as a warm-up for the rest of the trip, which took me to many new places.

Catskill.
Abandoned mills and foundries slated for renovation but work is progressing slowly if at all.

Athens - District No. 1 Public School.
Seen in Hudson Valley Ruins - Forgotten Landmarks of an American Landscape (2006),
the school is still abandoned as a renovation effort stopped and the building remains for sale.
