New York Ruins
A sample of sites that I visited during
my August 2010 road trip.
Some ruins, some not-so-ruins, and some not ruins at all.
Seneca Knitting Mills, Seneca Falls. Built in 1844.
Inside the later brick addition. I did not
gain entry to the original stone mill.
The mill is a landmark in town, standing
right across from the waterfront park where Amish people were selling fruits and
vegetables while I explored the mill.. This ruin also features prominently on tourist banners along the main
street. Nice to see at least one abandoned building not considered to be an
eyesore.
Seneca Falls.
The convention hall was a
ruin until recently, and exterior reconstruction has been completed.
Ivy covered house somewhere along Route 20
in the Finger Lakes region.
Church of Saint Januarius, Naples.
"Our Lady of the Grapes."
Not abandoned, just a very interesting modernist building, an
architectural tribute to
the grapes.
There is a large winery in town and it seems to be the big attraction.

View inside the Church of Saint Januarius.
Stony Brook State Park, Dansville.
Railroad trestle piers in a creek that
provided a nice little "swimming" hole after a long day of driving.
