Camp
Chi-Wan-Da
Ulster Park,
New York
The ruins of Camp Chi-Wan-Da exist in various states of
advanced decay, from fragile, barely-still-leaning wooden walls to completely
pancaked piles of lumber. The rubble of the former cabins and camp buildings
will eventually be removed from the site as the hilltop property, now given over
to passive recreation, is to be preserved as "undeveloped" riverfront
land under the stewardship of Scenic Hudson.
Unless the name was taken by another camp elsewhere, it seems that baseball
great Sandy Koufax
was a camper here.
