E S O P U S

ESOPUS is a small town on the Hudson's Western shore just south of Kingston, NY.  Here a winding road leads down towards the river from State Route 9W.  On my way to Kingston one winter's day in December of 1998, I turned off the highway and headed down toward the river, just to see what I could see.  Among a number of interesting old buildings I found was this handsome old brick building, whose intended function evaded me.

WITHIN this curious little building are what appeared to be the contents of an old house - old bathroom fixtures, doors, stoves, iceboxes, etc, which seemed for the most part to date from the early 1900s.   Out across the river one can catch sight of the mansions of Rhinebeck.  A typical country ruin, this hearty structure seems ready to take on yet another winter, on its own.
